Intestinal flora

The intestinal microflora, also known as microbiome, consists of a complex composition of bacteria and fungi which are present in the intestines. These microorganisms are in service of the human body and supply it with energy and vitamins, but they also help in the absorption of different substances. The body consists of about 100 trillion microorganisms and the microbiome could be considered as an individual organ.
