Kidneys & Adrenal glands

The kidneys are located on the back of the body, behind the lower ribs and they are responsible for several important processes in the body. The kidneys are a very special and important organ. They help the body produce useful substances and they filter the blood so that waste products and fluid leave the body. Two small triangular glands are positioned on the kidneys, which are known as the adrenal glands. The Latin name of these glands "adrenes" is based on the position ad-by or on; Renes kidneys. The adrenal glands produce a range of hormones in response to stress situations. These hormones include epinephrine and norepinephrine. Also, androgens such as testosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and androstenedione are produced in these small glands.

Optimal functioning of the kidneys

In addition to removing waste products from the body, another task the kidneys fulfils is maintaining the amount of water and salts in the blood. The kidneys function as filters and make a distinction between certain substances that must remain in the blood and which should be removed. In addition, the kidneys play an important role in the regulation of blood pressure and the activation of vitamin D. Optimum functioning of the kidneys is important for a vital body.

Adrenal medulla and adrenal cortex

Contrary to what the name suggests, the adrenal glands have nothing to do with the kidneys. An adrenal gland consists of an inner part (medulla) and an outer part (cortex). The adrenal medulla is responsible for the production of epinephrine and norepinephrine. These are hormones that are important for the regulation of, among other things, blood pressure.

Adrenal dietary supplements

The adrenal gland cortex is made up of three zones that each have their own function. The inner zone provides both female and male sex hormones. The middle zone produces glucocorticoids (including cortisol), which influence the fat distribution and glucose forms and function in suppressing inflammation. Finally, the outer zone is responsible for the production of hormones that influence the mineral balance. Good care supports the proper functioning of this organ. Various products, including DHEA and Adrenal Strength from MegaFood, have been specially formulated for the adrenal glands.
