Cordyceps for a healthy respiratory system
In China cordyceps is called the imperial mushroom; it grows in the high mountains of Tibet and China. Because the mushroom only occurred at an altitude of 3000 to 5000 meters, it was an exclusive and expensive product. Nowadays, cordyceps can be easily grown, so that everyone can use its special medicinal qualities.
The elongated Cordyceps has a relaxing effect on the smooth muscle of the respiratory tract and promotes the absorption of oxygen. This mushroom optimizes lung function and has a beneficial effect on the respiratory system. Research shows that cordyceps stimulates the energy production of cells and the blood flow of the organs. Partly because of this, the mushroom is invigorating for body and mind and supports your stamina, mental clarity and learning ability. In addition, as an adaptogen, the imperial mushroom improves the immune system and contains cholesterol-lowering beta glucans.
In China, the cordyceps is often used as an aphrodisiac or potency enhancer. The cordyceps contains L-tryptophan, polysaccharides (including cyclofurans, galactomannan, beta glucans, and beta mannans), lipids, and nucleoside analogues, which have virus inhibiting properties. The medicinal power of this mushroom is often combined with reishi for a faster and stronger effect.
Stronger immune system through reishi
Reishi (ganoderma lucidum) is one of the top 3 medicinal mushrooms. It is highly regarded in traditional Chinese herbal medicine and is one of the most scientifically researched mushrooms. The Chinese name for the powerful mushroom is ling zhi: mushroom of immortality.
Reishi, or the lacquered bracket fungus, grows on tree trunks and is used because of its beneficial effect in many health problems. This mushroom has received a lot of interest from science in recent years. Recent research confirms that reishi increases fitness, vitality and the immune system and strengthens and balances the immune system.
The orange-brown lacquered mushroom contains vitamins (C, B, D, E and folic acid); minerals such as iron, magnesium, calcium and zinc; trace elements such as manganese, selenium, chromium and copper; and amino acids. The most benefit comes from bioactive substances such as triterpenes and polysaccharides such as cholesterol-lowering beta glucans. Reishi has antiviral and antibacterial properties and has a detoxifying effect. It balances the gut, which is where our immune system is located.
New Chapter uses the fungus threads (mycelium), the spores and the pulp, that is, both the hat and the trunk part of the lacquered bracket fungus. Reishi products are legion, but they are not always effective. New Chapter extensively tests its products and even conducts DNA tests to ensure that the authentic medicinal ling zhi strain is used in the LifeShield™ supplement line.
Traditional use of chaga and poria
Each daily serving of two LifeShield™ Breathe capsules contains, besides cordyceps and reishi, 150 mg of poria and 125 mg of chaga. Poria grows on pine tree roots and is traditionally used as a Chi (life energy) tonic that supports the organs. The nutritious, firm brown tuber is slightly diuretic and sedative; Taoist hermits eat it to achieve enlightenment. The chaga (Inonotus obliquus) is a black-brown tuber that grows on birch trunks. Scientific research has shown that the chaga mushroom contains a large number of active components with antioxidant and antiviral effects.
Chinese herbal science, but also the ancient Greeks and Romans, excelled in mycotherapy: the use of medicinal mushrooms. In the Middle Ages, monks were also interested in their healing powers. The traditional use of mushrooms got the attention of science in the middle of the last century. Mycologists, biologists who research mushrooms, also became interested in the medicinal properties.
Initially, only Japanese and Chinese scientists were interested, but the West followed about 40 years ago. Mushrooms are evolutionarily older than plants, but we don't know much about it yet. There are now plenty of research results that confirm the medicinal properties of traditional toppers such as wig fungus (lion's mane), cordyceps, Turkey tail (coriolus versicolor) shiitake and reishi.
Mushrooms as adaptogens
Many mushrooms like the reishi are adaptogens, a well-known term in the holistic diet world. In centuries of Ayurvedic medicine herbs and plants have served as adaptogens. The Latin verb 'adaptare' means adaptation: adaptogens help your body adapt to negative stimuli including stress. This restores balance. The pharmacological concept of adaptogens stipulates that they stabilize physiological processes and promote homeostasis. For example, adaptogens stimulate the body to produce balanced hormones. They do not ensure the production of hormones themselves, but remedy any imbalance.
A Life Shield of mushrooms
New Chapter combines ancient traditional use of nature's treasures with insights from modern science. New Chapter’s mushroom-based product line is called LifeShield™ for a reason. These supplements provide a protective shield for your well-being. New Chapter uses the mycelium of the mushrooms (the fungal threads) and the fleshy part that grows above ground for products that actually contribute to your health. New Chapter LifeShield™ products bring balance to your life and each offers a specific health benefit, from enhanced mental clarity to support of the respiratory functions. New Chapter mushrooms are grown in the United States. They are given the opportunity to fully develop, ensuring a complete life cycle and thus, full medicinal properties.
How are the mushrooms tested?
Not every mushroom offers the same health benefits, though they may look identical. New Chapter takes pride in their mushrooms carrying the Identify Assured quality distinction, which means that all strains used have been carefully qualified and checked. New Chapter uses advanced technology to match, control and guarantee all components of the mushroom. This means that even the DNA of the strains is tested to identify and compare them with results from their extensive database. The chemical fingerprint of the mushrooms is then examined to verify and confirm its effect. This way you can be sure that the correct beneficial properties of the mushroom are present in your LifeShield™ supplements.
