Vegetarians

Vegetarians are individuals who adhere to vegetarianism as a way of life. In this ideology, one does not consume products in which animals are killed during their production. Vegetarians do not eat meat, fish, shellfish, or insects, but they do include eggs, honey, and dairy products such as butter, milk, yogurt, and (vegetarian) cheese in their diet. Vegetarians need to be particularly careful to ensure that supplements, for example, do not contain bovine gelatin or other inactive animal ingredients. The products in the 'Vegetarians' category are all free from animal products, and all MegaFood products are even certified vegetarian.

Differences between vegetarianism and veganism

Although there are clear differences between these two lifestyles, they are still often confused by some people. A vegetarian chooses not to consume the meat of animals but can eat animal products such as eggs, milk, cheese, yogurt, and other dairy products. Furthermore, vegetarianism usually does not go much further than adjusting dietary habits, and while many vegetarians choose this lifestyle out of compassion for animals, some may do so purely for health reasons. Veganism, on the other hand, is different. This lifestyle goes beyond just diet. A vegan is someone who consciously chooses this lifestyle out of compassion for animals and adapts their lifestyle as much as possible to avoid the exploitation of animals. There can, of course, be religious reasons for not consuming animals as well, especially in belief systems that embrace the theory of reincarnation; followers often eat vegetarian or vegan diets.

Benefits of vegetarian eating

Increasingly, scientists and health experts are speaking favorably of plant-based foods, as more and more studies seem to indicate that people who generally consume a plant-based diet tend to age more healthily and have a reduced risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes. However, it is not entirely clear whether this is solely due to the plant-based diet or also to the generally healthier lifestyles of vegetarians and vegans. Of course, the biggest advantage for vegetarians is that it saves animal lives and is better for the environment. On average, the amount of water required for one piece of beef is equivalent to one month of showering! The animal industry is one of the world's biggest polluters. After all, land must be used to cultivate animal feed and to keep the animals.

What nutrients does a vegetarian need?

It is sometimes believed that vegetarians do not get all the necessary nutrients, making it an unhealthy lifestyle. However, a vegetarian lifestyle is not inherently deficient in nutrients. On the contrary! As a vegetarian, you can get all the nutrients you need to lead a healthy and active life. It may take a bit more effort initially to balance the menu, but fortunately, there are countless recipes, books, and other resources available. Vegetarians do need to pay attention to their eating patterns to ensure they get all the necessary building blocks in the right proportions, but the same applies to someone who eats meat. Most vegetarians are very conscious of their diet and often have a rich intake of nutrients.

Supplements for vegetarians

As mentioned earlier, it is especially important for vegetarians to ensure that they get enough essential nutrients. However, with a balanced vegetarian diet that includes sufficient variety in whole grains, legumes, proteins, and calcium, there is no reason to worry. Specific supplements are not recommended for vegetarians. In some cases, such as for young children up to 4 years old, women planning or expecting a child, people following an extreme diet, older individuals with stomach or intestinal problems, or people who eat too little and too one-sided, certain recommendations apply. If you are a vegetarian and wish to take supplements, it's reassuring to know that these supplements are also vegetarian. For this reason, at Ergomax, we have created a separate category for vegetarians. All products in this category are guaranteed to be vegetarian, so you can confidently find the supplement that suits you!
