Liquid Fermented Cod Liver Oil by Green Pasture

Green Pasture’s Blue Ice™ Fermented Cod Liver Oil cinnamon flavor is made from the livers of wild-caught sustainable, MSC-certified cod from Alaska. Green Pasture cod liver oil is fermented in the traditional way; a mild and careful process that takes six months to complete. The end product is a natural source of vitamins and essential fatty acids that can be easily absorbed into our body. Cod liver oil is also available in convenient capsule form.

Why use liver oil?

Although cod liver oil may remind many people of the 1950s, it has recently become popular again to consume cod liver oil daily. More and more people see what this powerful substance can do for our health. Green Pasture’s high-quality fermented cod liver oil is particularly rich in vitamins A & D and in the omega-3 fatty acids EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). Vitamin A plays a vital role in the cell differentiation process, facilitates normal vision, is important for the skin, benefits the mucous membranes and, like vitamin D, supports the immune system. Vitamin D also benefits the calcium balance and the skeleton of children, helps in the cell division process, and is important for the teeth and muscles. The fish fatty acids DHA and EPA together benefit blood pressure, heart, brain and vision. Easily mix the liquid with a fresh vegetable or fruit smoothie, or take it on a spoon via the handy supplied dosing syringe.

Special discovery by Weston A. Price

In his famous book, Nutrition and Physical Degeneration Weston A. Price describes how the Swiss long worshiped the butter of cows in springtime. During this period, cows eat fast-growing grass. In the butter of this 'spring milk' Price found an undiscovered substance that he called Activator X. Price found that this substance, which was later called vitamin K2, is mainly found in the butterfat of grass-fed animals and in fermented products such as fermented cod liver oil. He also discovered the synergistic efficacy of butterfat and cod liver oil, which means that there is a uniquely effective cooperation between the two animal fats. It is this knowledge that has led Green Pasture to the creation of its special product line, consisting of butter oil, fermented cod liver oil and unique blends of both types of oils.

Green Pasture's unique fermented cod liver oil

For its cod liver products Green Pasture collaborates exclusively with Alaskan Leader Seafood, a fishing company in Alaska awarded the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) mark of distinction for using sustainable fishing techniques considered by several environmental organizations as today’s most environmentally-friendly fishing methods. On board, the fish is immediately processed, inspected and deep-frozen, so that its taste and freshness are preserved. At Green Pastures the livers of cod fish are subjected to a simple and traditional fermentation process dating back to Roman times. The livers are mixed with salt and broth, after which the fish is fermented for a few months before the oil is filtered out.

Sustainable quality essential fatty acids

For Green Pasture, quality and care for the environment go hand in hand. The company is committed to constantly seeking the most sustainable approach to the production of its cod liver oil and butter oil. For example, they collaborate with the Weston A. Price Foundation (WAPF) and set the highest standards for quality and environmental protection for all its partners. In addition, various independent quality tests take place throughout the manufacturing process, from raw material to end product. Green Pasture is unique in its use of a mild, age-old, traditional fermentation technique that ensures that natural antioxidants in the cod liver oil are retained and that no heat is required. For its premium-quality Fermented Cod Liver Oil (FCLO), Green Pasture Products received the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) seal, which has so far been awarded to only a handful of fish oil companies worldwide.

About Green Pasture

Dr. Weston A. Price was the great source of inspiration for Dave and Barbara Wetzel, founders of Green Pasture, to transform their Nebraska dairy farm in 2003 and start producing a special product, butter oil. Price found that "vitamin-rich butter oil," as he described it a century ago, could only be made from butter hailing from cows that graze on rapidly growing green pastures. Meanwhile, Green Pasture's Concentrated Butter Oil, along with fermented cod liver oil from sustainably caught cod and skate as well as other butter oil products sold by the company, has become a worldwide success. Green Pasture is known for its high-quality products and the care and involvement to the environment throughout the production process. In recognition of this, in 2012 Dave and Barbara received Nebraska's Distinguished Entrepreneur Award.
