Experience the power of organ extracts with Ancestral Supplements

Organ meat is making a comeback. Since the beginning of our existence, humans have eaten and used all parts of the animals on our menu. That’s not only thrifty and efficient—it’s also incredibly healthy, as organ meats are packed with vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and fatty acids. Yet nowadays you’ll find little to no organ meat in the supermarket, which is a pity, because it would be an excellent addition to our modern diet.

Ancestral Supplements is changing this. With its organ extracts, the brand has developed supplements of exceptional quality. The ingredients do not come from factory farming, but from grass-fed cattle and sheep that graze freely in the green landscapes of New Zealand.

In this blog, we take a closer look at Ancestral Supplements’ organ supplements and the benefits of organ meat for your health.

The origin of Ancestral Supplements

When his own children were constantly at the doctor’s due to various allergies and kept receiving new prescriptions, Brian Johnson decided to take a different approach. He read the book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration by Canadian dentist Weston A. Price. He then began serving his entire family organic organ meats, wild-caught fish, raw dairy, nuts, and seasonal vegetables. Since then, his children have never been ill again—in fact, they are in top physical and mental condition.

This experience convinced Johnson to delve deeper into “ancestral living”—the lifestyle, diet, and behavior of our forebears. It ultimately led to the founding of Ancestral Supplements, with the ambitious goal of bringing back what the modern world has removed and helping people become strong, healthy, and happy again.

“Ancestral Supplements wants to restore what the modern world has removed from our diet and lifestyle.”

The Texas-based company brings together a team of holistic health experts and focuses on sharing knowledge about ancestral living, nose-to-tail eating, and the benefits of organ meats for our health. Ancestral Supplements’ organ supplements make consuming organ extracts simple and accessible. After all, not everyone is ready to put fresh organ meat on the menu. For some, the taste takes getting used to, and it can be difficult to source good, organic organ meats.

The discovery of Weston A. Price

We already mentioned the book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration by Canadian dentist Weston A. Price, written back in 1939. Not without reason: this book forms the foundation of a broad ancestral living movement that has gained followers around the world in recent decades.

Weston A. Price traveled the globe to study the lifestyles and dietary habits of traditional peoples. He discovered, among other things, that Canada’s indigenous peoples valued the consumption of animal organs—especially bone marrow. Among other ancient peoples, such as Aboriginal Australians and Melanesians, organ meat is also a mainstay of the daily diet. He observed that these peoples often had excellent teeth and strong immune systems and were in good physical and mental condition. He also saw that the more these peoples came into contact with Western foods, the more degenerative diseases occurred and the weaker their health became. Thus, he linked good health with the consumption of organ meat.

“The more traditional peoples came into contact with Western foods, the weaker their health became.”

According to many traditional healers, eating healthy animal organs also nourishes the corresponding organs in the human body. And although, for example, the Inuit primarily eat fish and Swiss mountain peoples consume far more full-fat, raw dairy, all of these groups share a common trait: they use the whole animal, including:

  • Dairy and colostrum
  • Organs (liver, tongue, heart, kidneys, brain, stomach, thymus, eyes, pancreas, prostate, gallbladder)
  • Skin
  • Blood
  • Bones, cartilage, and bone marrow
  • Fat and tallow
  • (Fish) eggs
  • Tendons

Weston A. Price found that the diet of traditional peoples contains roughly four times more calcium and ten times more fat-soluble vitamins from animal products than the diet of the average American.

Why is organ meat so healthy?

Western diets consist mainly of muscle meat, whereas organ meats are, by comparison, much richer in nutrients. Organ meats are notably rich in:

  • The fat-soluble vitamins A, D & K
  • Vitamin B12
  • Omega-3 fatty acids
  • Magnesium
  • Heme iron
  • Coenzyme Q10
  • Enzymes
  • Proteins
  • Peptides
  • Essential amino acids
  • Collagen

Each organ or part of an animal has a different nutrient profile. The heart, for example, is rich in collagen and coenzyme Q10, while the brain contains omega-3 fatty acids, proteins, and unique peptides. Many traditional peoples even believe that eating an animal organ supports the same organ in the human body by supplying key nutrients. That seems logical, knowing that human and animal organs share many similarities and therefore benefit from the same nutrients. An increasing number of studies are exploring this, and several investigations support the nutrient density of organ meats. [1], [2], [3]

This is how you eat and live like an ancient human

Eating organ meats fits within the broader movement of adopting the ancient lifestyle of our ancestors. Under names such as Paleo, Primal, and Ancestral Living, there are numerous diets that aim to restore the principles of this age-old way of life. With its vision and products, Ancestral Supplements aligns with this movement.

The lifestyle is about more than just avoiding packaged and factory-made foods. It’s about living purely and naturally. This includes, among other things:

  • A diet similar to that of hunter-gatherers, consisting primarily of (wild) meat, fish, eggs, plants, tubers, nuts, seeds, fruit, and herbs
  • Preparing food using traditional methods
  • Creating a natural sleep rhythm without (artificial) light
  • Daily exposure to sunlight
  • Walking barefoot in nature
  • Reducing and managing stress as much as possible
  • Engaging in regular, healthy physical activity

You can, of course, decide how far you want to take this and which aspects you want to focus on. Some people prioritize the diet, while others focus more on exercise and physical fitness.

Conclusion

In today’s society, it’s no longer obvious to live as our ancestors did—but with good planning and enough determination, you can get a long way. In any case, it’s worthwhile to study this ancient knowledge and integrate it into your life as much as possible. This way of eating is rich in essential nutrients that many modern people lack. For most people, a Paleo, Primal, or Ancestral lifestyle leads to feeling healthier and fitter.
