Fermented Cod Liver Oil & Butter Oil Gel by Green Pasture
Green Pasture’s Blue Ice™ Royal Blend Gel is a chocolate-flavored blend that consists of 1/3 X- Factor™ Gold Concentrated Butter Oil and 2/3 of Blue Ice™ Fermented Cod Liver Oil. The cod liver oil is extracted from the livers of sustainably caught, MSC-certified Alaskan cod and the butter oil hails from cows that have had the right nutrition and living conditions for creating the richest butter oil. This unique combination product is packed with nutrients including vitamins A & D and high concentrations of omega-3 fatty acids including EPA and DHA. Cod liver oil is also available in convenient capsule form.
Importance of vitamins A & K
Green Pastures cod liver oil is unheated and by nature includes both the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA and vitamins A and D. Although it is sometimes said that too much vitamin A may be harmful, it is good to realize that many people are more likely to get too little than too much of this important vitamin for our bodies, especially children and pregnant women. Vitamin A plays a role in the cell differentiation process, helps normal vision, is important for the skin, benefits the mucous membranes and like vitamin D helps the immune system. Vitamin D also benefits the calcium balance and the children’s skeletal system, facilitates the cell division process and is important for the teeth and muscles. The fish fatty acids DHA and EPA together benefit blood pressure, heart, brain and vision. Green Pasture’s Concentrated Butter Oil is obtained through an unheated, natural centrifugation process. The oil is rich in the fat-soluble vitamin K, which supports blood clotting and contributes to the maintenance of strong bones. Butter oil also contains a combination of essential fatty acids including butyric acid, lauric acid, and CLA, and is a source of trace elements including manganese, zinc, chromium and selenium.
Special discovery by Weston A. Price
In the 1920s and 1930s, Weston A. Price traveled the world to study traditional diets and eating habits. In his now famous book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration, he describes how the Swiss worshiped the butter of cows grazing during springtime. According to Price, this was due to the fact that the cows ate fast-growing grass during this period, making the butter richer in vitamins. He discovered a previously unknown substance in the butter, which he called Activator X; it was later renamed vitamin K2. Further research by Price showed that this substance occurs mainly in butterfat and fermented cod liver oil and also demonstrated a synergistic cooperation between these two animal fats. These findings by Dr. Price are the basis of Green Pasture's unique product line, which includes butter oil, fermented cod liver oil and unique blends of these two oils.

The best of both worlds
Green Pasture's unique blends are based on Dr. Weston A. Price’s key insight that the combination of cod liver oil and butter oil is more beneficial than using both products separately. Green Pastures butter oil is rich in fat-soluble activators and in combination with cod liver oil, you get the best out of both products. Green Pasture cod liver oil products are traditionally fermented without the use of synthetic additives and proudly bear the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) seal, owing to the sustainable and modern fishing techniques of Green Pasture's exclusive fishing partner, Alaskan Leader Seafood. Green Pastures butter oil is made from the milk of cows that graze on pastures with fresh, fast-growing grass. This milk is made into a high-quality butter oil using a centrifugation process. In contrast to many common butter oils, no use is made of heat, ensuring that nutrients are better preserved.
Sustainable quality essential fatty acids
For its cod liver oil products, Green Pasture is the only company worldwide to use an ancient, traditional, very mild fermentation technique, which makes it possible to avoid the use of heat and to preserve the oil’s natural antioxidants. Green Pasture cod liver oil is continuously tested by independent third parties and meets all modern requirements for quality and purity. The company also makes every effort to work according to a sustainable approach wherever possible and also sets the highest standards in terms of quality and environmental protection when selecting its partners. Green Pasture Products has a partnership with the Weston A. Price Foundation (WAPF) and received the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) seal of approval for its premium-quality Fermented Cod Liver Oil (FCLO), an eco-label awarded to only a handful of fish oil companies worldwide.
About Green Pasture
Dr. Weston A. Price was the great source of inspiration for Dave and Barbara Wetzel, founders of Green Pasture, to transform their Nebraska dairy farm in 2003 and start producing a special product, butter oil. Price found that "vitamin-rich butter oil," as he described it a century ago, could only be made from butter hailing from cows that graze on rapidly growing green pastures. Meanwhile, Green Pasture's Concentrated Butter Oil, along with fermented cod liver oil from sustainably caught cod and skate as well as other butter oil products sold by the company, has become a worldwide success. Green Pasture is known for its high-quality products and the care and involvement to the environment throughout the production process. In recognition of this, in 2012 Dave and Barbara received Nebraska's Distinguished Entrepreneur Award.
