Extra virgin cod liver oil (EVCLO) - 150 ml

Extra Virgin Cod Liver Oil (EVLCO) is a truly fresh, cold-processed, traditional and handmade cod liver oil from Norway. EVCLO is produced according to ancient Viking Druid methods.

The goal of Rosita Real Foods is to produce a cod liver oil that comes close to a living cod liver as close as possible, as well as the restoration of this ancient natural product: with the same purity, wisdom and wild ingredients as their Norwegian Viking ancestors. At Rosita Real Foods they have a passion for quality. This is reflected in the precise manner in which they practice their production skills as well as in the extensive studies they perform on this product.

In the production of EVCLO no imported livers are ever used. The only quality that will do is that of fresh, sustainably caught wild cod (the 'Gadus morhua' species) from the Atlantic Ocean--to be specific: from the deep, clean and pristine waters off the coast of Lofoten, Norway.

Rosita Real Foods is the only company to receive official permission from The Norwegian Institute of Food, Fisheries and Aquaculture Research - Nofima, to use the term "Extra Virgin".

In order to maintain optimal nutritional value, no chemicals, solvents, heat or mechanical methods are used to produce the oil. The oil is thus unrefined, extra virgin and very nutritious. EVCLO is almost transparent or gold in color, has a mild fish taste. Other liver oil products, whether in composition, quality, color, smell or taste, don't compare to EVCLO.

Regular production methods do utilize heat, chemicals or steam in order to extract the oil from the liver. This results in an inferior oil whose freshness is far from desirable.

To monitor its quality EVCLO Rosita Real Foods EVCLO is extensively tested in renowned universities and institutions linked to governments. Freshness is very important because cod liver oil is naturally a very unstable oil. Decay starts shortly after the removal of the liver and rapidly progresses as time passes. In order to protect the oil from this decay process, minimal amounts of two antioxidants are added: rosemary oil and natural vitamin E.

EVCLO is extensively tested by the manufacturer in their certified ECO Marine facility since 15.07.2011 with the collaboration of Nofima BioLab (the Norwegian Institute of Food, Fisheries and Aquaculture Research). This laboratory specializes in raw sea products. In its systems, EVCLO is known as project number C3937.

Quality of the EVCLO


Rosita has control over the entire production chain starting with the fishermen at sea and ending with the consumer. This unique entire-chain approach ensures that Rosita can offer the high quality product they have in mind, but also that they can provide guarantees as its authentic quality.

Because the exact origin of each cod liver is known quality problems that may occur in large batches of imported frozen liver can be avoided. Think of livers of various types of cod, rotting livers, diseased livers, etc .

Rosita's fishermen remove the livers immediately after capture, with ceramic knives, and preserve the livers under special shielded circumstances to maintain freshness. Because Rosita uses small fishing boats livers are typically brought in quickly. They are carefully inspected by hand.

Only livers in pristine condition and meeting traditional color and weight criteria are suitable for the production of EVCLO. Only after the inspection approved livers go to the production facility where the oil is extracted via an ancient method whose specific details are kept secret.

The only modern twist Rosita adds to this process is the processing of the livers in an oxygen-free environment with a minimum of light. Livers never come into contact with reactive surfaces such as metal or plastic, and are never frozen during processing.

At the end a mild filtering process takes place (using gravity) to remove the last pieces of liver tissue. No refining takes place!

EVCLO provides the body fats and nutrients in the proportions that nature intends. The cod liver oil contains no added synthetic vitamins or other unnatural additives. Consuming cod liver oil in its most natural shape, such as EVCLO, is the most healthy way because it is identical to the liver of wild and free-swimming cod.

EVCLO is an unrefined and unprocessed whole food. The concentration of the fat-soluble nutrients depends on various factors such as the natural size of the fish, the amount of oil in the livers, but also the season. As a result, the exact composition differs from batch to batch.

EVCLO is rich in vitamin A and D3, Omega -3,4,6,7,9,11 fatty acids and other nutrients while the purity and freshness is very high.

History of the Extra Virgin Cod Liver Oil

Human consumption of cod liver oil dates back to the Viking period (700-1100). Fish and fish liver oil were important components of the Norwegian diet. Vikings knew then that the strength of cod liver oil was in the fresh cod liver. For this reason the oil was extracted immediately after catching the fish.

The Viking Druid method of production retained the full quality, potency and synergy of the natural fats, nutrients and other constituents. At Rosita Real Foods they still make use of this old and authentic method to retrieve the oil. The process is fairly simple, but is only available in select families were it is being passed on from generation to generation.

The Vikings called Cod liver oil "the gold of the ocean."

- For maximum and durable freshness, it is advisable to keep EVCLO in the freezer until you want to use the oil. After opening refrigeration suffices. The oil remains in excellent condition for more than 3 months after opening.
