(*claims pending)

Kunyit in jamu

In Indonesia turmeric is called kunyit. It is a staple ingredient of jamu, the traditional herbal drinks that jamu sellers still bring door to door on Java. In Dutch colonial cuisine turmeric went into nasi kuning, the yellow rice. In Dutch the root was long called geelwortel, yellow root.

Made in the United States

Doctor's Best uses Meriva® from the Italian company Indena. In this phytosome technique, each curcumin molecule is bound to phosphatidylcholine, a phospholipid. The capsule is plant-based and the product is vegan.

Facts about this product

Two capsules provide 1,000 mg Meriva®, with at least 180 mg curcuminoids. Take them with a meal. If you take blood thinners or antacids, or have gallstones, consult your doctor first.

Curcumin Phytosome Meriva by Doctor's Best

The curcumin included in these capsules in phytosome form with Meriva®, derives from turmeric and consists of a strong combination of three types of curcuminoids: curcumin, bisdemethoxy curcumin and demethoxy curcumin. Curcuma, or turmeric, has numerous health-promoting properties. The product benefits the nervous system, supports the immune system, benefits eyesight, as well as the heart and blood vessels (claims pending).

Phytosome form for optimal absorption

However, the curcuminoids in many turmeric capsules are not properly absorbed into the body. The patented phytosome technology in this product ensures that the curcuminoids have a very high bioavailability. Owing to this technology, each curcumin molecule is bound to one or more phosphatidylcholine molecules. This creates molecular complexes called phytosomes. Meriva® phytosomes are less likely to break down and they mix well with moisture, ensuring they are well absorbed when taken orally. The phosphatidylcholine molecules form a type of transport that protects the curcumin.

Benefits

Curcumin helps fight stress and tension. Curcumin benefits the nervous system. Curcumin supports heart, blood vessels and overall circulation. Curcumin is an antioxidant and supports the immune system. Curcumin benefits the respiratory system. Curcumin benefits digestion and the liver. (Health claims pending approval by the European Commission.) With Meriva®, high bioavailability. Suitable for vegans and vegetarians. Does not contain gluten or soy; GMO-free.

Hormetic effects of turmeric

The unique combination of curcuminoids contributes to the maintenance of healthy cells and tissues and protects against free radicals. Free radicals can cause oxidative stress in the body. Antioxidants are beneficial in protecting against these free radicals. Turmeric not only contains antioxidants. What is less known is that curcuminoids are also health-promoting stressors (“hormetic” stimuli) with hormetic effects. A hormetic effect (“hormesis”) occurs when the body is temporarily exposed to something that causes stress, such as calorie restriction, exposure to heat or cold, and fasting. Substances can also have a hormetic effect at a certain dose. After the hormetic stimulus, the body becomes more resilient. Antioxidants with hormetic effects stimulate the body's own (endogenous) antioxidants to become extra active.

Diverse pleiotropic, protective effects

With a multitude of molecular targets in the body, turmeric (curcumin) is a true pleiotropic food supplement: a substance with multiple effects on multiple body systems and modes of action. The use of turmeric supplementation has been extensively studied. Turmeric is without doubt one of the most interesting herbs in the world of biochemistry.

Widely used in Asia for medical applications

Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is also called Indian yellow root. It belongs to the ginger family and grows in South and Southwest Asia. Turmeric plays an important role in the cuisines of various Asian countries. It contains various vitamins and minerals. Turmeric extract has been used for centuries in India and China for various conditions.

AND WHAT WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SAY
  • -
No claim whatsoever about curing, preventing or treating diseases. A supplement is not a medicine and we do not present it as one.
  • -
No substitute for medical advice. If you take medication, are pregnant or have a medical condition, consult your doctor.
  • -
No substitute for a varied diet. A supplement is an addition to healthy eating, not an alternative.
