The curcumin included in these capsules in phytosome form with Meriva®, derives from turmeric and consists of a strong combination of three types of curcuminoids: curcumin, bisdemethoxy curcumin and demethoxy curcumin. Curcuma, or turmeric, has numerous health-promoting properties. The product benefits the nervous system, supports the immune system, benefits eyesight, as well as the heart and blood vessels.

Phytosome form for optimal absorption

As is well known, the curcuminoids in many turmeric capsules are not properly absorbed into the body. The patented phytosome technology in this product ensures that the curcuminoids have a very high bioavailability. Owing to this technology, each curcumin molecule is bound to one or more phosphatidylcholine molecules. This creates molecular complexes called phytosomes. Meriva® phytosomes are less likely to break down and they mix well with moisture, ensuring they are well absorbed when taken orally. The phosphatidylcholine molecules form a type of transport that protects the curcumin.

Hormetic effects of turmeric

The unique combination of curcuminoids contributes to the maintenance of healthy cells and tissues and protects against free radicals. Free radicals can cause oxidative stress in the body. Antioxidants are beneficial in protecting against these free radicals. Turmeric not only contains antioxidants. What is less known is that curcuminoids are also health-promoting stressors (“hormetic” stimuli) with hormetic effects.

A hormetic effect (“hormesis”) occurs when the body is temporarily exposed to something that causes stress, such as calorie restriction, exposure to heat or cold, and fasting.
