A caterpillar in winter, grass in summer
The Tibetan name for cordyceps, yartsa gunbu, means summer grass, winter worm. The spores of the fungus settle in caterpillars in the soil; in summer a thin fruiting body grows up above the ground. In the wild, the species occurs only above 3000 metres in the Himalayas, in Tibet, Nepal and Bhutan.
From imperial herb to cultivation
In traditional Chinese herbalism, cordyceps was highly valued and, according to tradition, was once reserved for the imperial court. Wild cordyceps costs tens of thousands of dollars per kilo and is at risk of overharvesting. That is why CorsyMAX uses cultivated mycelium, the fungal tissue, which allows a consistent composition.

Life cycle and origin of Cordyceps sinensis
According to Tibetan experience, Cordyceps sinensis has two main seasons: in winter in the caterpillar, in summer in the grass. The spores infect caterpillars and live as parasites in the insect during the winter; once the nutrients have been used up, the fungus forms a fruiting body in the summer. In the wild, this species grows only in three Himalayan regions, Tibet, Nepal and Bhutan, at altitudes above 3000 metres. Tibetan herders noted more than two thousand years ago that cattle grazing on these sparsely vegetated, oxygen-poor plateaus remained remarkably energetic and fertile, which they attributed to the caterpillar fungus they ate among the grass.
Traditional appreciation, modern interest and cultivation
Tibetan cordyceps is considered a prized ingredient in traditional Chinese medicine; according to tradition, it was once reserved for the emperor to support youthfulness, fertility, endurance and physiological functions. Modern attention grew when Chinese athletes attributed their performance partly to cordyceps. The fungus contains special compounds such as cordycepin (first isolated from the related species Cordyceps militaris), adenosine, rare N-polysaccharides and beta-glucans. Due to its rarity, wild cordyceps costs approximately 20,000 to 80,000 dollars per kilo and is at risk of overharvesting; fortunately, controlled cultivation is possible, allowing standardised products with higher levels of active ingredients to be obtained at significantly lower cost.
Use and content
Each pack contains 90 capsules, completely free of titanium dioxide (TiO₂) and suitable for vegetarians. The recommended intake is 3 to 4 capsules per day, preferably before breakfast or lunch, with plenty of water. Thanks to the standardisation of each extract, the composition remains consistent batch after batch.
