Organic Seaweed Extract + Iodine Capsules from Seagreens®
Seagreens® Iodine+ Capsules consist of 100% certified organic wild wrack seaweed, naturally rich in about 350 micrograms of iodine per capsule. Iodine is one of the most important minerals for our health, particularly for thyroid function. The “plus sign” in the product name indicates that the natural micronutrients which support the transport and metabolism of iodine are also present. Seagreens® Iodine+ capsules are a source of vitamins B2, B3, B6, and C, as well as zinc, copper, and selenium. These capsules can be taken whole once a day, or easily opened so the contents can be mixed into a smoothie or juice. Seagreens® products are free from additives, and all capsules are “Trufilled,” meaning they always contain the stated quantities per capsule.
Key nutrients in seaweed
All Seagreens® capsules have been analyzed for various vitamins and a total of 67 mineral elements. Seagreens® Iodine+ Capsules are a source of vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, C, and E, folate, zinc, copper, selenium, iron, molybdenum, potassium, and of course iodine.
Iodine supports the thyroid and the normal functioning of the nervous system, is important for the skin, contributes to normal energy metabolism and learning ability, and plays a role in the normal growth of children. Vitamin B1 (thiamine) is good for the heart and nervous system, activates the body’s natural energy, and contributes to mental clarity. Zinc supports bones, the cell division process, vision, the immune system, hair, skin, nails, and memory. Vitamin E and manganese are antioxidants that protect cells, and vitamin B3 (niacin) helps reduce tiredness, supports energy levels, and contributes to mental resilience. Seaweed also provides prebiotic polysaccharides.
The perks of seaweed
“Seaweed” is a collective name for a group of unrelated large algae that live in salt or brackish water, also called marine algae or macroalgae. They occur in all the world’s oceans and are often found at river mouths. Some species attach to hard surfaces; others float freely in the sea. Some seaweeds can grow up to 60 meters long! Seaweeds are extremely resilient, tolerating sunlight, exposure to air, and strong wave action. They are among the most resilient and fertile plant-like organisms on Earth, appearing in many types, sizes, and structures, and packed with nutrients. They even contain the most minerals of all plants, since they absorb minerals directly from the ocean and can store them in their cell structure.
Because they grow in the sea, seaweeds have unique properties compared with land plants. They are rich in minerals and trace elements such as calcium, sodium, magnesium, iron, and iodine, and they contain various trace nutrients. Seaweed is also a source of antioxidants, prebiotic fibers, vitamins A, C, and E, and plant-based proteins. No surprise that in many countries people have long believed seaweed can support good health!

Our past and future with seaweed
Seaweed has a long and extensive history as a tool, food, cosmetic, and medicine. It played a crucial role in the evolution of our brains, since we obtained the fatty acids needed for brain development from fish and shellfish, which in turn fed on seaweeds and other algae. At Monte Verde in Chile, evidence shows that seaweed was used by humans more than ten thousand years ago. Other sources mention its use in China, where Emperor Shen Nung employed seaweed therapeutically 5,000 years ago. Seaweed was also widely used in Europe and North America, especially in coastal regions, though it was generally more highly valued elsewhere, particularly in Asia where its use is widespread.
In recent years, seaweed has been gaining popularity worldwide. Increasing research highlights its special properties for both nutrition and sustainability. Seaweed is a good food alternative for humans and animals because it grows quickly, easily, and in almost every country on Earth. It also absorbs CO₂ and can be used to produce green gas and eco-friendly packaging materials, making it a highly promising product for a sustainable future.
Seaweed products produced with care
Seagreens® seaweed is the result of expert selection, sustainable harvesting, careful processing, extensive analytical testing, and award-winning nutritional research. For around 25 years the company has studied and produced wild seaweed with sustainable harvesting around the British Isles and in Scandinavia. Two native species were recently added to its research and production process. Seagreens® works closely with partners in the British Isles and the Scandinavian region on harvesting and research, continually developing new methods and techniques to maintain Seagreens®’ unique quality. This enables Seagreens® to deliver high-quality, nutrient-rich seaweed products, now exported to more than ten countries worldwide.
