What is Ancestral Minerals and how does it differ from an ordinary mineral supplement?

Ancestral Minerals provides per 3 capsules 125 mg of magnesium (as bisglycinate), 100 mg of potassium, 313 mg of sodium and 587 mg of chloride from sea salt and potassium chloride, plus 725 mg of wildflower bee pollen and 25 mg of Atlantic kelp (natural iodine). It is the electrolyte and mineral foundation of the 'ancestral' approach: no synthetic oxides, but minerals in the forms and ratios found in sea salt, honeycomb and seaweed. Ancestral Supplements uses no fillers, flow agents, stearates or anti-caking agents; every batch is tested by an independent laboratory and the company operates under GMP certification.

Why is there salt (sodium) in a supplement?

People who eat little processed food (carnivore, keto, Paleo, Whole30) often get too little sodium and potassium, resulting in fatigue, headache, muscle cramps and 'keto flu'. 313 mg of sodium per daily dose is about an eighth of a teaspoon of salt, a top-up and not an overdose. If you have high blood pressure, heart failure or kidney problems, or take diuretics, consult your doctor.

How do I take Ancestral Minerals?

Take 3 capsules per day, preferably spread over the day with meals and with plenty of water; athletes take some of them around training. If you have a sensitive stomach, start with 1 capsule. A jar of 180 capsules lasts 60 days at 3 per day.

Does this product contain bee pollen, and is that safe if I have an allergy?

Yes, 725 mg of bee pollen per daily dose. Bee pollen contains B vitamins, amino acids, enzymes and flavonoids, but can cause an allergic reaction in people with a pollen or bee allergy, in rare cases a severe one. If you have hay fever, a bee sting allergy or a honey allergy, do not use this product, or only after a test with a small amount in consultation with your doctor. Not suitable for vegans (bee product and gelatine capsule).

How much iodine does the kelp contain?

25 mg of Atlantic kelp provides an estimated 25 to 75 µg of iodine, so less than the daily reference intake (150 µg). That is a normal food-level amount, but if you have a thyroid condition (Hashimoto's, hyperthyroidism) or take thyroid medication, consult your doctor before adding iodine.

What is the difference from Ancestral Electrolytes and from Morning Magnesium?

Ancestral Electrolytes is a sugar-free drink powder with sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium and choline, aimed at hydration around exercise and heat. Ancestral Minerals is the capsule version with magnesium (125 mg), bee pollen and kelp, as a daily mineral foundation. Morning Magnesium (Smidge) is pure magnesium in three forms without sodium or potassium. Athletes often combine Electrolytes around training with Minerals as a daily base.

Is it suitable for children, during pregnancy or alongside medication?

For children only on the advice of a therapist. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, in consultation with your midwife (iodine and magnesium are particularly important then, but the dose needs to be precise). If you take blood pressure medication, diuretics, lithium or thyroid medication, consult your doctor.

Does this product contain allergens and how should I store it?

Contains bee pollen (potential allergen), kelp (seaweed, not fish or shellfish) and beef gelatine (capsule). Otherwise no gluten, dairy, soy, nuts, egg, fish or fillers. Store cool, dry and dark, tightly closed.
