Bestvital's organic colostrum extract contains liquid colostrum extract. Colostrum is an ultimate superfood with 69 active substances. Colostrum is the first breast milk a newborn baby receives from its mother and has a unique composition with many different components, including immunoglobulins, growth factors, interferons, interleukins, lactoferrin, amino acids, vitamins and minerals. The casein has been removed and the raw material comes from certified organic, grass-fed cows.

What colostrum is

Colostrum is the first milk that mammals produce after giving birth. Mothers make it during the first three to five days, after which the composition gradually changes, via so-called transitional milk, into regular breast milk. Colostrum provides essential nutrients for the baby but also plays an equally important role in the development of the baby's immune system. The importance of colostrum and breastfeeding was long underestimated, but thanks to new analytical techniques, colostrum is increasingly gaining the recognition it deserves. Bovine colostrum contains only substances that also occur naturally in the human body.

Grass-fed and organic

The raw material comes from small herds of grass-fed cows raised by organic farmers in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Grass-fed bovine colostrum has been chosen because it is nearly 100% identical to human colostrum. Colostrum is extremely valuable for the life of a calf. However, cows produce more colostrum than they need, and the colostrum products are made from this surplus.

Why gentle processing matters

The effectiveness of colostrum is closely related to the quality and processing of the raw colostrum. The delicate protein fractions and bioactive substances are destroyed by high temperatures, such as those used in traditional pasteurisation. Large-scale mechanical processing does not benefit the quality either. Gentle and manual techniques are used for this extract, ensuring that the bioactive fractions in the colostrum remain intact. The casein has been removed, which makes the product different from regular dairy. Bestvital has the chain certified according to the International Featured Standard (IFS) and Food Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

At Ergomax, we are big fans of colostrum products for supporting vitality. The bioactive substances in colostrum are active in many different tissues in our body, which makes colostrum versatile. In our webshop you will find colostrum in both liquid and capsule form. The effect is the same: the choice depends on your personal preference. Colostrum can be used by young and old alike and is also often used by athletes.

Storing and using liquid colostrum

Colostrum is very sensitive to oxygen and light. It is therefore very important to store the liquid colostrum sealed and in the dark, inside its cardboard packaging. Colostrum can be mixed with any cold drink. Alcoholic beverages, however, cannot be used. After opening, store the colostrum in a cool place and use it within two weeks.

04 / What we may claim

EFSA claims for colostrum.

Framework
EU 1924/2006
EFSA register
Subject
Colostrum
(bovine colostrum)

In Europe, we may only make health claims about food supplements that have been assessed and authorised by EFSA and are listed in the official EU register. No claim outside it is permitted to us, however plausible it may sound.

For colostrum, there is nothing in that register. No claim has been authorised and there is no claim on hold for this substance either. So pending European authorisation does not apply here either.

No authorised claims
EU register
Regulation 1924/2006

No health claim at all has been authorised for colostrum in the EU register.

What you read above about the origin, collection, processing and composition are factual properties of the product and the raw material. They are not health claims assessed by EFSA, nor are they intended as such. If you want to explore the literature, search for colostrum, lactoferrin or immunoglobulins in combination with the subject that interests you.

Framework: Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 and Regulation (EU) No 432/2012. No health claim has been authorised for colostrum and there is no claim on hold for this substance either.

Curator's note
Colostrum in liquid form and without casein, rather than processed into a powder.
Selected by Ergomax

Colostrum is almost always sold as a powder. This one comes in liquid form, which makes it easy to measure out with a tablespoon and mix into a cold drink. The casein has been removed during processing, which is not a given with colostrum.

We stock Bestvital because the company controls the entire chain, from sourcing to processing and distribution, with products that are tested in independent laboratories.
