What colostrum is
Colostrum is the first milk that mammals produce after giving birth. Mothers make it during the first three to five days, after which the composition gradually changes, via so-called transitional milk, into regular breast milk. Colostrum provides essential nutrients for the baby but also plays an equally important role in the development of the baby's immune system. The importance of colostrum and breastfeeding was long underestimated, but thanks to new analytical techniques, colostrum is increasingly gaining the recognition it deserves. Bovine colostrum contains only substances that also occur naturally in the human body.
Grass-fed and organic
The raw material comes from small herds of grass-fed cows raised by organic farmers in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Grass-fed bovine colostrum has been chosen because it is nearly 100% identical to human colostrum. Colostrum is extremely valuable for the life of a calf. However, cows produce more colostrum than they need, and the colostrum products are made from this surplus.
Why gentle processing matters
The effectiveness of colostrum is closely related to the quality and processing of the raw colostrum. The delicate protein fractions and bioactive substances are destroyed by high temperatures, such as those used in traditional pasteurisation. Large-scale mechanical processing does not benefit the quality either. Gentle and manual techniques are used for this extract, ensuring that the bioactive fractions in the colostrum remain intact. The casein has been removed, which makes the product different from regular dairy. Bestvital has the chain certified according to the International Featured Standard (IFS) and Food Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

Storing and using liquid colostrum
Colostrum is very sensitive to oxygen and light. It is therefore very important to store the liquid colostrum sealed and in the dark, inside its cardboard packaging. Colostrum can be mixed with any cold drink. Alcoholic beverages, however, cannot be used. After opening, store the colostrum in a cool place and use it within two weeks.
