Vitamin E was discovered in 1922 by Herbert Evans and Katharine Bishop in California, as a substance in food that rats needed in order to reproduce. The name tocopherol is based on this: the Greek tokos means offspring and pherein to carry or bring forth. The tocotrienols were not described until the 1960s.

Doctor's Best uses EVNol SupraBio™, an extract from red palm oil (Elaeis guineensis) with the four tocopherols and four tocotrienols. The softgel is made of bovine gelatin, so the product is not vegetarian.

Tocopherols and tocotrienols: what is the difference?
