FAQ
Who is the Sensitive Probiotic Powder for and why choose this one?

Smidge™ (formerly Organic3 / GutPro®) deliberately makes 'bare' supplements: only the active ingredient, without prebiotics such as inulin or FOS, without fillers, flavours, colours or common allergens. That makes the products suitable for the most sensitive users, including those with histamine intolerance, SIBO, GAPS, Paleo, keto, Body Ecology and children with PANDAS/PANS or autism. This powder contains 8 histamine-neutral or histamine-degrading strains and nothing else: no capsule, no cellulose, no prebiotics. With 3 billion CFU per 20 mg scoop you can build up in the smallest possible steps. It is the choice for extremely sensitive adults, children and anyone who previously reacted 'too strongly' to probiotics.

What is the difference from regular probiotics and from the old GutPro® powder?

Many probiotics contain strains that themselves produce histamine (such as Lactobacillus casei, L. reuteri, L. bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus) or D-lactate (such as L. acidophilus), which can give sensitive people headaches, itching, palpitations, brain fog or fatigue. Smidge™'s Sensitive and Infant formulas contain only strains that are histamine-neutral or actually break down histamine (such as L. plantarum, L. gasseri, L. salivarius and the Bifidobacterium strains) and no D-lactate producers. Compared with its predecessor GutPro® (Organic3), the dose per scoop has been deliberately made much lower (3 billion instead of 25 billion CFU), so you can dose and build up much more finely. The strains are the same.

Powder or capsules: which Sensitive version should I choose?

Choose the powder if you want to start very low (a quarter or half scoop), for children who cannot swallow capsules, or with severe histamine intolerance, mast cell activation or SIBO. Choose the capsules (5 billion CFU per capsule) if you want a fixed, higher dose and already tolerate probiotics reasonably well. A 20 gram jar of powder contains 1000 scoops, so even with daily use it lasts a long time and is cheaper per dose.

How do I dose the powder and how do I build up?

Start with a quarter to half a level scoop (the measuring spoon is in the jar) once a day with a meal and increase every 4 to 7 days if you notice no reaction, up to 1 scoop a day or whatever feels right for you; some users go higher in consultation with their practitioner. Stir the powder into cold or lukewarm food or drink (yoghurt, apple sauce, water), never into anything hot. Make sure the spoon is clean and dry so no moisture gets into the jar.

What if I get a 'die-off' reaction?

More gas, changed bowel movements, headache or fatigue in the first days usually indicates a shift in the gut flora and is temporary. Then go back to the previous dose or skip a day, drink plenty of water and build up more slowly afterwards. Precisely because this powder is so finely dosable, you can keep the reaction well under control.

Is this powder suitable for children, during pregnancy or with a weakened immune system?

Yes, the powder is widely used in children from about 2 years (start with a quarter scoop); for babies and toddlers there is the Infant Probiotic Powder with extra B. infantis. The strains are well documented in pregnancy and breastfeeding; to be safe, consult your midwife. People with a severely weakened immune system should always consult their doctor first.

How do I store the powder and can it travel with me?

Keep the jar tightly closed in the fridge; that way the number of live bacteria stays up to the expiry date. When travelling, the powder remains usable for a few weeks at room temperature, although the CFU count slowly declines; keep it out of the sun and away from heat. Moisture is the biggest enemy: always use a dry spoon.

Does this product contain allergens, prebiotics or additives, and is it vegan?

No. The Sensitive Probiotic Powder contains only the freeze-dried bacterial cultures, grown dairy- and soy-free. No dairy, casein, gluten, soy, egg, nuts, corn or yeast, no prebiotics (no inulin, FOS or maltodextrin) and no colours, fragrances or flavours. The product is vegan and non-GMO.
