2'-Fucosyllactose (2'-FL) is a universal prebiotic for young and old. 2'-FLs are unique prebiotics. They are bio-identical breast milk oligosaccharides or 'Human Milk Oligosaccharides' (HMOs). 2'-FL is a small soluble trisaccharide naturally present in breast milk along with other glycans. It is made up of L-fucose, D-galactose and D-glucose. 2'-FLs are unique and rare prebiotics because they are not found in our daily food products. We can only take them through supplementation.

Fiber as important nutrient

Like dietary fiber, 2'-FL's pass through the small intestine without being digested and arrives intact in the large intestine. Here they function as important nutrients. The prebiotics product 2'-FL is produced the natural way, in Germany. 2'-FL combines very well with probiotics, for example with Ergomax's fermented kefir capsules.

One of the most researched HMOs

There are over 200 different types of Human Milk Oligosaccharides, most common being 2'-FL. 2'-FL is a very well documented HMO and is a suitable prebiotic for young and old. The 2'-FL in our product is produced through fermentation and can be safely used as a dietary supplement. HMOs have been recognized as beneficial to babies since the late 1800s. At the beginning of the twentieth century, German-Austrian pediatrician and bacteriologist Prof. Theodor Escherich (1857-1911) and German pediatrician Ernst Moro (1874-1951) were able to document the prebiotic effects of HMOs. Over 150 different complex oligosaccharides have since been isolated from breast milk.

Fermentation of prebiotics

Prebiotic fibers are not digestible and are fermented in the lower part of the small intestine and in the large intestine by different types of bacteria and yeasts. This produces a series of substances useful for the human host. These include vitamins, endocannabinoids, and short-chain fatty acids such as butyrate, lactate, acetate and propionate.

Hydrogen is produced as well

In addition to the short-chain fatty acids, fiber consumption also generates gases such as hydrogen and carbon dioxide. Hydrogen, as an antioxidant, along with oxygen is deeply intertwined with the emergence of life on Earth and its evolution. The balance of oxygen and hydrogen, or of oxidation and reduction, is essential in living organisms.

We emphasize once again the synbiotic combination of pre- and probiotics. The effects of a synbiotic combination exceed those of a single intake of prebiotics or probiotics. Should gas prove problematic when using this combination, reduce the 2'-FL prebiotics dosage and build it up more slowly.
