The 5 supplements Andrew Huberman named on Diary of a CEO

By Wiggert Meerman, CMO Ergomax

Over the past few years I have listened to a lot of podcasts and Andrew Huberman kept coming up in them. I find him interesting to listen to, although he is sometimes a little too American for us down-to-earth Dutch. In my opinion he occasionally throws around anything that has ever been studied a bit too easily. At the same time I find that refreshing. If we only dare to refer to research that has been repeated fifty times, we won't get very far. Huberman pushes the boundaries and that earns him criticism now and then. What I appreciate about him is that he makes science understandable for a large audience.

To be honest, Momentous came to us through his podcast. I heard him talk about the brand and the vision behind it and immediately thought: this is what we want. A few days later we had a distribution deal to bring Momentous to the Netherlands.

In early September, Huberman was a guest on The Diary of a CEO, the podcast hosted by Steven Bartlett. Bartlett asked him which five supplements he would choose if he could only take five for the rest of his life. In this article I list his choices. After that, you can read which of these nutrients you can find at Ergomax and what role they play in the body.

What Huberman chose

1. Magnesium

First, Huberman named magnesium. He mentioned two forms: magnesium threonate and magnesium bisglycinate. He considers the two interchangeable.

2. Omega-3

His second choice was omega-3. He aims for at least 1 gram of EPA per day and chooses a source with a high concentration of EPA.

3. Vitamin D

Huberman himself takes 5,000 to 10,000 IU of vitamin D per day and has his blood levels checked regularly. He also keeps getting sunlight. He warned against going excessively high as well. In Europe, the safe upper limit for adults is 100 micrograms (4,000 IU) per day. If you want a higher dose, have your blood level measured first and consult your doctor.

4. Alpha-GPC

Fourth, Huberman named alpha-GPC. He takes 600 to 900 mg per day himself.

5. Creatine

His fifth choice was creatine. Huberman has been using it since he was 17 or 18, at a dose of 5 to 10 grams per day.

These nutrients at Ergomax

Magnesium

Magnesium is a mineral your body needs every day. It contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue, to the normal functioning of the nervous system and to normal muscle function.

In a supplement, magnesium is always bound to another substance and that bond determines the name. In magnesium bisglycinate it is bound to the amino acid glycine. In magnesium threonate it is bound to L-threonic acid, a substance formed when vitamin C is broken down. Magtein® is a patented form of magnesium L-threonate.

From our range:

Omega-3

EPA and DHA are omega-3 fatty acids that you mainly get from oily fish. People who eat little fish often choose a supplement based on fish oil, krill oil or a plant-based source.

EPA and DHA contribute to the normal function of the heart. DHA also contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and normal vision.

Momentous sources its omega-3 from anchovies, sardines and mackerel. This fish oil is available as softgels and in travel packs for on the go. If you eat plant-based, there is the vegan version. From our own brand Ergomax, there is krill oil from Antarctic krill.

From our range:

Vitamin D

Your body produces vitamin D under the influence of sunlight. During autumn and winter in Northern Europe, that is often not enough. Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones, to the maintenance of normal muscle function and to the normal function of the immune system.

Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is the form your body also produces itself. Many people combine vitamin D3 with vitamin K2. Vitamin K2 contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and to normal blood clotting.

From our range:

Alpha-GPC

Alpha-GPC (L-alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine) is a source of choline. Choline contributes to normal lipid metabolism and to the maintenance of normal liver function. Your body can make a small amount of choline itself. Most of it has to come from your diet, for example from eggs, meat and fish.

From our range:

Creatine

Creatine is a substance your body produces itself and that is also found in meat and fish. It is one of the most researched sports supplements. Creatine increases physical performance in successive bursts of short-term, high intensity exercise. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 3 g of creatine.

Are you over 55 and do you do resistance training? Daily creatine consumption can enhance the effect of resistance training on muscle strength in adults aged 55 and older, with a daily intake of 3 g of creatine.

Momentous creatine is available as a powder, as a chewable tablet and in travel packs for on the go.

One of our customers, Gabor G., wrote about Momentous creatine:

"Best creatine ever. Great quality, mixes well. You gotta trust Momentous."

Finally

What stands out about Huberman's list is that it consists of five well-known and widely researched nutrients. If you want to start with one of these supplements yourself, choose what fits your diet, your lifestyle and your goals. Do you take medication, are you pregnant or in doubt? Then consult your doctor or pharmacist first.
