PepZin GI® - Zinc-L-Carnosine Complex by Doctor's Best

PepZin Gl® is a patented complex combining zinc and L-carnosine (Zinc-L-Carnosine). PepZin Gl® is, among other properties, a powerful antioxidant and specifically developed to benefit the stomach. PepZin GI® was first synthesized in 1983 by Hamari Chemicals (Japan) with the aim of combining the two physiologically important substances into a single molecule. This special chelated form of the mineral zinc evidences potent effects in the stomach. PepZin Gl® has been widely used in Japan since 1994.

Synergy between zinc and L-carnosine

Zinc-L-Carnosine is created by the chelation of the mineral zinc with the peptide L-carnosine. The combination of zinc and L-carnosine ensures that the product dissolves in the stomach with a delay, so that beneficial effects in the stomach last longer—this in contrast to simple loose combinations of zinc and L-Carnosine. Such combinations are not molecularly bound, dissolve faster and are therefore much less effective. The molecular binding of zinc to L-Carnosine, and its extensive documentation, makes PepZin Gl® unique.

Zinc: Additional information

The separate components zinc and L-Carnosine merit brief discussion. For example, zinc is a very essential mineral for many processes in our body. Space does not allow listing them all; all cells of the body require zinc, for example for the cell division process. Zinc is also necessary for building healthy bones, hair, skin and nails. Adequate zinc status is important for fertility and reproduction. Finally, zinc benefits the immune system.

L-Carnosine: Additional information

L-Carnosine (β-alanyl-L-histidine) is a dipeptide consisting of the amino acids β-alanine and histidine. L-carnosine is mainly found in the brain and in the skeletal muscle tissue. We acquire L-Carnosine through food, especially meat: as with L-carnitine, the name 'carnosine' refers to its frequent occurrence in muscle tissue (carne meaning meat in Latin). Vegan or vegetarian diets hardly contain L-Carnosine. Furthermore, as we age, bodily levels decrease.

How does digestion work in the stomach?

Everything we eat - proteins, carbohydrates, fats - is reduced, converted, absorbed and digested in various steps within our body by means of enzymes. This digestive process starts in the mouth and stomach. It also releases vitamins and minerals for use throughout the body. A well-functioning stomach is essential for proper digestion. The stomach roughly consists of a muscle layer, a connective tissue layer and a mucous membrane layer. The mucous membrane produces gastric juice. Gastric fluid plays an important role in the conversion of food inside the stomach. Gastric fluid includes hydrochloric acid, digestive enzymes, mucus and intrinsic factor. Intrinsic factor is a substance required for the absorption of vitamin B12 from food in the small intestine. Adequate digestion also ensures proper absorption of nutrients and the maintenance of balance within the intestine, ensuring overall health.
