Liquid Fermented Cod Liver Oil by Green Pasture

Green Pasture’s Blue Ice™ Fermented Cod Liver Oil, natural flavor, is made from the livers of sustainable wild-caught, MSC-certified Alaskan cod. Green Pasture cod liver oil is fermented in the traditional way; a mild and careful process that takes six months to complete. The end product is a natural source of vitamins and essential fatty acids that can be easily absorbed into our body. Cod liver oil is also available in convenient capsule form.

Why use liver oil?

Although cod liver oil may remind many people of the 1950s, it has recently become popular again to consume cod liver oil daily. More and more people see what this powerful substance can do for our health. Green Pasture’s high-quality fermented cod liver oil is particularly rich in vitamins A & D and in the omega-3 fatty acids EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). Vitamin A plays a vital role in the cell differentiation process, facilitates normal vision, is important for the skin, benefits the mucous membranes and, like vitamin D, supports the immune system. Vitamin D also benefits the calcium balance and the skeleton of children, helps in the cell division process, and is important for the teeth and muscles. The fish fatty acids DHA and EPA together benefit blood pressure, heart, brain and vision. Easily mix the liquid with a fresh vegetable or fruit smoothie, or take it on a spoon via the handy supplied dosing syringe.

Special discovery of Weston A. Price

Dr. Weston A Price was a pioneering dentist and researcher who traveled the world about a century ago to study traditional dietary habits. He was the first to observe a high level of vitamins in butter oil made from the milk of cows that eat fast-growing grass in the spring. He discovered a new substance in this vitamin-rich butter oil, which he called Activator X; it would later be called vitamin K2. In addition, he discovered a synergistic effect when this butter oil is used together with fermented cod liver oil. Green Pasture took this knowledge to heart and decided to start producing butter oil, and later also fermented cod liver oil as well as blends of both animal oils, with which they managed to market a globally unique product line.

Green Pasture's unique fermented cod liver oil

The use of fermented fish products has a long history in many traditional cultures and has also played an important role in the health of those cultures. Green Pasture honors these traditions, using the same age-old fermentation method for extracting cod liver oil. Without using synthetic additives, the livers are mixed with salt and broth, after which the whole is left to ferment for a few months before the oil is extracted. Green Pasture’s cod liver oil products proudly wear the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) mark of excellence, thanks to the durable and modern fishing techniques of Green Pasture's exclusive fishing partner, Alaskan Leader Seafood.

Sustainable quality essential fatty acids

For Green Pasture, quality and care for the environment go hand in hand. The company is committed to constantly seeking the most sustainable approach to the production of its cod liver oil and butter oil. For example, they collaborate with the Weston A. Price Foundation (WAPF) and set the highest standards for quality and environmental protection for all its partners. In addition, various independent quality tests take place throughout the manufacturing process, from raw material to end product. Green Pasture is unique in its use of a mild, age-old, traditional fermentation technique that ensures that natural antioxidants in the cod liver oil are retained and that no heat is required. For its premium-quality Fermented Cod Liver Oil (FCLO), Green Pasture Products received the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) seal, which has so far been awarded to only a handful of fish oil companies worldwide.

About Green Pasture

Green Pasture is a Nebraska-based family business founded in 2003 by Dave and Barbara Wetzel. A few years earlier they decided to turn their lives around, to bring their families closer to nature and start a dairy farm. They soon came across the ideas of Dr. Weston A. Price. In particular his findings on 'vitamin-rich butter oil', made from the milk of grass-fed meadow cows, prompted them to use their green pastures to create Concentrated Butter Oil, a product now renowned worldwide. In 2007 Green Pasture expanded their product line with fermented cod liver oil products made from sustainably caught skate and cod. Today, Green Pasture Products is the international leader because of its commitment to its careful, sustainable and high-quality production process, for which David and Barbara have received Nebraska's Distinguished Entrepreneur Award, in 2012.
