Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant and protects cells against free radicals, also known as oxidative damage. Vitamin E consists of a total of eight types: four tocopherols and four tocotrienols. Both tocopherols and tocotrienols come in alpha, beta, gamma and delta variants. The trace element selenium has the function of an antioxidant as well and in addition stimulates the production of glutathione. Furthermore, Selenium contributes to the normal functioning of the thyroid gland and of the immune system.
